Love, Peace & Goodwill

By the end of last week I was feeling cynical. Then on Friday night I watched two things that turned around my mood. Conan O’Brien’s last show was a treat, especially if you’re a fan of Free Bird as sung by Will Ferrell in a crazy wig accompanied by Beck, Ben Harper and Conan himself. But Conan’s parting comments (before they rocked out) were gracious and oddly uplifting. Then, I watched this documentary — A Man Named Pearl — on dvd and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

Pearl Fryar is an incredible artist and also seems to be one of the most profoundly peaceful people I have ever seen. His dedication to his own, unique vision, his work ethic, his generosity and his kindness are awe-inspriring, not to mention his work is GORGEOUS. I hope to visit his garden some day, but in the meantime, he’s already had a major impact on my work and on my state of mind, as he’s already done for so many others.

If you need a little pick-me-up or just want to watch something and someone really beautiful, you couldn’t spend a better 78 minutes. Here are a couple of stills I cribbed from the internet:
